Live Minimal Techno

Darien J, based in Brighton UK, is a performer, curator, and mixer of deep dance music. He has a firm belief that his music is for dancing not chin scratching, foot gazing, ego stroking or selfie taking. Like a musical sponge Darien constantly absorbs wide-ranging influences and is wrung out on radio stations and dancefloors around the world.

Totally ignoring genre limitations, he manages to combine elements from the deepest side of house, electronica, and techno in both his live performances, DJ sets and productions. This kind of petulant behaviour might be expected from a young upstart new on the scene but believe it or not this is a veteran of over 20 years who has the dance moves to match.

Since his debut release of The Dubstar EP on Cubism Records in 2008 his skills in the studio have improved in equal but opposite measure to the decrease in tempo of the music he is willing to dance to. His latest live project has been described as sounding like ‘the abandoned love child of a twisted love triangle of Stimming, Saytek and Kink’.

Over the years Darien’s music has found homes on other trendy labels like Motek, Submarine Vibes, Inside Out, Chapter 24, Polyptych and most recently Saturo Sounds

In keeping with his DIY approach Darien completed a challenge to self-release one track every week in 2021 which can be found at Bandcamp

Following a busy 2023 in the DJ booth supporting the likes of Prismode and Solvane, Dubspeeka and Evil Tom, Darien has also been focusing on his hardware-only live performances in 2024.
