MMMM: Belief, avoid your worst, DJing correctly & Brighton Pride
Things to make you go MMMM on Thursday

"To inspire and encourage electronic artists to Make, Manage and Market Music every day."
Three thoughts for your music and one on mine.
3 for you:
It’s amazing how inspiring it can be to know that someone believes in you. Even if it is only yourself.
“The greatest gift you can give someone—including yourself—is a belief in their potential.” - Ozan Varol
Similar to my point last week on avoiding zero % weeks, James Clear likes to focus on just being a little better than you have been before:
"Avoiding mistakes is an underrated way to improve. It's easier to fend off a bad day than achieve a perfect day. Rather than do your best, avoid your worst.”
And this one might seem to be directed solely at DJs but I find it’s a great analogy for success in many forms, especially in the dance music industry.
“DJing done correctly is always a subtle thing, even when your choice of weapons are quite blunt and macho. You always have to start cleverly or you will have nowhere to go. Reel them in, don’t smash them over the head with a sock full of audio bricks. Understanding your place in your surroundings is key. Being part of it, not the imagined focus, is the humility required to excel at the job. Because it is never better when you are all in it together, this is its purpose. This is what we are for. It’s a party. A celebration. Not a concert. Once you start to think everyone is there for you, you are lost. You are there for everyone else. As is everyone in the place. We are all in the house, or tent, together.” - The Secret DJ
1 from me
This coming weekend is all about Brighton Pride.
Around 300,000 people will be out partying for two days straight and I am very grateful to be involved with our favourite bar in Kemptown, Block, which is slap bang in the middle of the St James Street Party.
Last year I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to jump at the chance to play on the main stage at the street party when another DJ had a major equipment malfunction.
There are rumours my brother in beats Chemz and I may be making an appearence again this year but it’s not yet confirmed…
Until next week
