MMMM: Zero percent weeks, long-term thinking, enthusiasm and getting social

Things to make you go MMMM on Thursday

by Darien J

"To inspire and encourage electronic artists to Make, Manage and Market Music every day."

Three thoughts for your music and one on mine.

3 for you:

Being creative can feel like a game you can’t win but that’s because your view on what it takes to be creative is an illusion.

If you want to improve over the long term then try not to obsess about being 100% with your creative practice.

Just try and avoid 0% weeks.

It’s the same as being healthy. As long as you do something you can change everything.

I’ve kept things going over a busy summer season DJing by trying to practice on my hardware setup for ten minutes each day.

Yes, of course I miss some of those days but I never have a 0% week.

This brings me on to the next point which also focuses on long-term creativity.

As Ozan Varol puts it:

“If your goal is to create things that last, don’t chase the latest fad. Instead, focus on things that age well.”

I’ve said before about the importance of keeping your word.

James Clear adds another factor to the mix:

"Being good at what you do is partially about competence, but not exclusively.

Two other things that matter:

Reliability. You do what you say you're going to do—on time and as expected.

Enthusiasm. You're excited to be here and eager to work on this problem.

Skills matter, but in many cases it's your reliability or attitude that separates you from the pack."

(2 in) 1 from me

The summer really is in full swing down here on the coast and the end of the month always proves to be a time for getting our groove on.

This month I join forces as one half of The Social Shift with two other favourite Brighton promotions for our third installment of The G3T deep. SHIFT.

An event we first started on NYD 2023 at Block and then in May we took over The Oculist. This time we bring our fully-loaded party brigade to the awesome Patterns terrace on the seafront for a proper daytime shindig.

Join us from 3pm until 10pm on Saturday 29th July 2023

Free guaranteed entry tickets available here if you’re in the area.

Ding ding! Round 3! The G3T deep. SHIFT are excited to announce our third event mashup is imminently incoming! After the success of the previous two events we have once again combined the forces of Nina Carina's 'G3T LOO5E', Brunonumerouno's 'deep.' and Chemz and Darien J's 'The Social Shift' events to make a tasty summer cocktail of musical delight for you all to enjoy!

This time round, we will be hosting the party at Patterns and we can't wait to pop our cherry there!

We'll have all the usual bonkers b2b action, all kicking off at 3pm and taking you through till 10pm.

On the line-up this time, we have:

Barney Osborn b2b Aaron D b2b DJ Lewe
Dom Mov b2b MYSD b2b Benzi b2b Craig Nock
Adam Pique b2b Tom Yates
