Fear

There’s always an element of fear before starting any creative pursuit.

I’ve talked about how scared I get before writing but it’s not just that.

Making music is also a scary thing to do.

If you give yourself too much time to think about it then your brain will automatically come up with reasons not to do it.

Thoughts will always project into the future and what you imagine people’s perception of your work will be.

How will they understand what I’m trying to achieve?

How will it compare to what they expect from good music (or at least what they believe is good)?

Who do I think I am to submit them to my work anyway?

I guess that’s imposter syndrome at work there.

But what’s happening when we think of the outcome is we are focusing on the results rather than the process.

We lose focus on what is required to get the outcome.

If we work a little every day on practicing the thing we are trying to create there will always be an outcome.

The quality of which will be determined by how much we have practiced.
