MMMM: Discomfort, energy levels, low time preference and session #1

Things to make you go MMMM on Thursday

by Darien J

"To inspire and encourage creativity by sharing more wisdom every week than any electronic artist in the world.”

Three thoughts for your creativity and one on mine.

3 for you:

Discomfort is your friend.

“When you feel discomfort, that doesn’t mean something is wrong with you.

It means something is right with you.

It means your body is working as it should—alerting you that the cocoon you’ve built around yourself is ready to be broken so you can emerge in your new form.

Don’t suppress. Don’t numb. Don’t dissociate.

Because discomfort isn’t an enemy. It’s a guide. It’s a signal from the wisest parts of your being, urging you to explore, to grow, to transform.

Listen to that signal. It echoes the paths to futures you haven’t even imagined.” - Ozan Varol

Manage your energy levels.

"I have learned that whenever I think "I don't have enough time to do that" what I usually mean is "I don't have enough energy" or "I am not actually interested in doing this."

What I need to do a better job of is not managing my time, but rather caring for myself and identifying my true interests. When I am well rested and working on something I am genuinely excited about, finding time is rarely a problem." - James Clear

More low-time-preference thinking for long lasting benefits.

"If you accomplish something good with hard work, the labour passes quickly, but the good endures; if you do something shameful in pursuit of pleasure, the pleasure passes quickly, but the shame endures." - Musonius Rufus

1 from me

On Sunday I kicked off my new monthly experiment for 2024.

Every 2nd Sunday of the month I will be spending the whole day in the studio working on music.

I’ll be operating an ‘open studio’ policy and booking in other creatives to collaborate on ideas with a view to making something new and unique.

So if you’re working on anything (music, poetry, song writing or anything else that can be put to a beat) and would like to collaborate in the studio for a day then send me a link to your works in progress to me@darienjdj.com or just reply to this email.

I’ll respond to every email I get and maybe we can get a date booked and start working towards it.

You will need to be ok with being on camera though (unlike the pasty guy in the video below). 😉
