Unique V Popular

I had a bit of a revelation this morning.

An ‘aha!’ moment if you like.

If you’ve been keeping up with me this year, then you’ll know I’ve been releasing a track every week and have set myself the challenge to continue throughout 2021.

One of the realisations I’ve had while doing this has made something come more into focus.

The difference between aiming to be unique and aiming to be popular.

Now, I’m not saying that the two are mutually exclusive.

You can of course be uniquely popular after all but I’m not so sure you can be popular before becoming unique.

That sounds like a harder achievement.

So, what is the point of this train of thought?

Well, if you want to build a following for your art, you need to make a difference to people.

By releasing it to the world on a regular basis.

The obvious way to do that is to make something that you believe will be popular.

How do you do that?

Research what is already popular and make something just like it.

Then release something every month or two so you can send it to the people who like that type of thing.

The less often you release, the more generic and like them it would need to be.

The more often you release the more like you it will be.
